Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Lucknow Super Giants in a low-scoring match played at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow on 1 April 2023 in the IPL 2023.

It was a brilliant performance by Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers to defend 127. The incident took place in the 3rd over as Virat Kohli took a simple catch to dismiss Krunal Pandya and celebrated the wicket with full zeal.

Mohammed Siraj got the initial breakthrough getting rid of Kyle Mayers with a simple catch to Anuj Rawat. Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals and never allowed them to settle for a particular line and lengths. Ayush Badoni came to open the innings along with Kyle Mayers.

 

At the end of the first six overs, Lucknow Super Giants looked in trouble at 34 for 4. Nicolas Pooran went for a glory shot but was caught by Lomror to leave LSG struggling. Krishnappa Gowtham looked in decent touch putting pressure on RCB bowlers with some lovely shots. Karn Sharma dismissed the dangerous Marcus Stoinis with a simple catch to Prabhudessai leaving LSG tottering at 65 for 6.

Krishnappa Gowtham fell trying to attempt the second run as all hopes of Lucknow Super Giants went in vain. Royal Challengers Bangalore kept it tight not allowing the LSG batters to score runs easily on a tough batting pitch. KL Rahul came to bat after the fall of the 9th wicket. It was a great end as Harshal Patel dismissed Amit Mishra. It was a disciplined bowling effort as RCB won the match by 18 runs.

Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli showed the way

RCB captain Faf du Plessis came back to captain the team. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis showed intent in putting pressure on LSG bowlers. KL Rahul got injured as he dived going off the field. At the end of the first six overs, Faf and Kohli put on 42 runs.

Ravi Bishnoi struck to dismiss Kohli stumped. Kohli and Faf added 62 runs for the opening wicket. LSG bowlers created enough pressure on RCB batters. It was a disciplined bowling effort by LSG bowlers taking wickets at regular intervals and restricting RCB to 126 for 9 in 20 overs. Faf du Plessis was the top scorer with 44 and was named the Player of the Match award.
