The final of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) between the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings was moved to reserve day after rain played spoilsport on Sunday, May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The day was called off at 22:54 IST after the umpires felt that the match couldn’t take place.

Nitin Menon, one of the umpires for the mega-clash expressed that there were chances of play when the rain stopped at around 9 pm. However, the rain was back heavier, spoiling the hopes of the fans and the players. The final will now take place on Monday, May 29 at the same venue, the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

However, there is a rain forecast for the reserve day as well. According to weather.com, there is a 7% chance of rain during match time, which increases to 11% after 10.30 PM IST.

What happens if the reserve day of the 2023 IPL final gets washed out?

The playing conditions for the 2023 Indian Premier League final’s reserve day remain the same as on Sunday, May 28. The cut-off time for a full 20-over match will be 9:45 PM IST. Both the teams as well as the fans will be hopeful of a full game happening. After 9.35 pm, the match will begin to lose overs. The cut-off time for a five-over game is 12.06 am.

If a five-over game isn’t possible, the match will head towards the possibility of a super over. The cut-off time for a Super Over is 01:20 am (Tuesday, May 30). In case, the entire day gets washed out due to rain, Gujarat Titans will be declared as the winners. They finished the league stages at the top of the table. Gujarat Titans had eighteen points from fourteen matches. Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings ranked second with seventeen points, including a washed-out game against Lucknow Super Giants.
