The much-anticipated wait has finally come to an end as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the remaining schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Notably, all 74 matches are slated to take place within India, dispelling any speculation of matches being held abroad.

The focal points of the competition will be in Ahmedabad and Chennai, with key fixtures such as Qualifier 1 and Eliminator set to unfold at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera on May 21 and 22, while Qualifier 2 and the showdown will grace the Chepauk stadium in Chennai on May 24 and 26, respectively.

Know the reasons behind the decision?

The decision to designate Ahmedabad and Chennai as playoff venues aligns with expectations, especially considering the stature of last year’s finalists, Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. Their home turfs should be chosen, with the ultimate clash slated for Chennai, the city of champions, which also hosted the inaugural match of the season.

In a strategic move, the BCCI opted for a seamless transition between the first and second legs of the IPL, with the 22nd game set to kick off immediately on April 8, featuring Chennai Super Kings against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chepauk, in a night game format. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had dismissed the possibility of logistical challenges, and the IPL operation team has admirably crafted a schedule anchored in Indian venues.

Navigating security concerns posed by the General Elections spanning from April 19 to June 1, with the counting scheduled on June 4, was a paramount challenge for the BCCI. Yet, they adeptly sidestepped overlaps with election dates across seven phases while upholding the home and away format. Notably, Dharamsala and Guwahati have secured slots for IPL matches, serving as secondary bases for Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, respectively.

The schedule also showcases marquee encounters, with Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians set to face off only once in IPL 2024, in Mumbai on April 14. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will kickstart their campaign at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 20 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, following their hosting duties for the second leg of WPL 2024.

The finale of the league phase promises excitement as Rajasthan Royals take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the last match, marking a thrilling conclusion before the playoffs commence on May 21. With key fixtures strategically distributed and the stage set for enthralling encounters, IPL 2024 is poised to captivate cricket enthusiasts across the globe.
