Mumbai Indians registered their first two points of IPL 2024 with a 29-run win over Delhi Capitals in a high-scoring thriller played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 7th April.

DC captain Pant won the toss and decided to field first. Rohit Sharma showed intent right from word go putting pressure on DC bowlers. It was a sensational batting effort by former captain Rohit hitting boundaries and sixes at will. Mumbai Indians raced away to 75 for 0 at the end of the first six overs.

Axar Patel dismissed Rohit Sharma with a lovely delivery shattering the stumps. Rohit and Ishan added 80 runs for the opening wicket. At the end of the first timeout, MI ended at 80 for 1. Suryakumar Yadav on his return was dismissed scoring a duck.

Axar Patel struck again with a sharp return catch to dismiss Kishan. Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Tilak Varma to bring back DC into the game. Hardik Pandya struggled initially but showed intent with positive shots. Tim David showed intent in his class putting DC bowlers under immense pressure. David and Hardik Pandya added 60 runs for the 5th wicket.

Tim David blasted away DC bowling while Romario Shepherd smashed 32 runs off the final over against Anrich Nortje. Shepard made 39 off 10 deliveries as Mumbai Indians made 234 for 5 in 20 overs. Shepard and David added 53 runs for the 6th wicket.

 

Shepard did the job with the ball also getting the early wicket of David Warner that put pressure on DC batting. It was a disciplined bowling effort by MI bowlers as they restricted DC to just 46 for 1.

Shaw looked in good touch putting pressure on MI bowlers. Bumrah bowled a superb yorker to dismiss Shaw. Shaw and Abhishek Porel added 88 runs for the 2nd wicket. Despite Stubbs’s brilliance, Mumbai Indians bowlers restricted DC to 205 for 8. For his all-round performance, Romario was named the player of the match.
