IPL 2024: Here’s How Gujarat Titans Can Still Make It To The Playoffs?

In the Wednesday clash at New Delhi’s grounds, the Delhi Capitals clashed with the Gujarat Titans in match 40 of the season. The Delhi Capitals clinched victory, triumphing over their opponents by a narrow margin of four runs. This win was pivotal for the Capitals as it propelled them from the eighth position to the sixth spot on the points table.

Conversely, the defeat pushed the Gujarat Titans down from the sixth position to seventh in the standings. It marked the fourth triumph of the season for the Delhi Capitals, delivering a significant blow to the Gujarat Titans, whom they had previously outplayed earlier in the season.

It’s a close battle between the team’s to make it to the qualify

Currently, the Rajasthan Royals lead the points table with 14 points, closely pursued by the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, the Gujarat Titans’ path to the playoffs appears precarious due to their unfavorable Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.974. To rectify this, the Gujarat Titans must secure victories in all five of their remaining league-stage matches.

Typically, teams secure berths in the IPL playoffs with 16 points or more, necessitating the victory of at least four league-stage matches for the Gujarat Titans. Yet, the challenge looms large for them to improve their negative Net Run Rate, especially after losing one of their five games. In terms of the match itself, the Delhi Capitals elected to bat first, posting an imposing total of 224 for four.

Captain Rishabh Pant spearheaded the charge with a blistering 88 runs off just 43 balls, supported by Axar Patel’s contribution of 66 runs. In response, the Gujarat Titans displayed resilience but ultimately fell short, losing by a mere four runs. Kuldeep Yadav emerged as the standout bowler for the Capitals, claiming figures of 2 for 29 in three overs.
