The Punjab Kings will kick off their campaign in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) taking on the Delhi Capitals on Saturday, March 23 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mulanpur, Chandigarh. Both teams will be keen to begin their campaign on a winning note.

The Punjab Kings finished eighth on the points table last season. They won six matches and earned only 12 points. Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals were ninth with just ten points from five wins. With some new additions to the teams, both franchises will be hoping the turn their fortunes in the 2024 IPL.

Fifth most successful wicket-keeper in the IPL

The 2024 Indian Premier League season marks Rishabh Pant’s comeback to the sport after a long break since the car accident. He will be keen to make an impact for the franchise straightaway in their first match. Rishabh Pant will also be eyeing to go past Parthiv Patel in the list of Most Successful wicket-keepers in IPL history.

The Delhi Capitals skipper has 79 dismissals to his name as a keeper in the IPL. He has a chance of going past Parthiv Patel, who has 81 dismissals. If Pant manages to go past Parthiv, he will become the fifth most successful wicket-keeper in the tournament. MS Dhoni tops the list with 182 dismissals.

150 sixes in IPL

Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan is one of the best batters of all time in the Indian Premier League. Ahead of Punjab Kings’ opening match against the Delhi Capitals, Dhawan will be eyeing the 150 sixes landmark. He has scored 148 sixes in 217 matches, scoring 6617 runs. He is just two away from the milestone and will become the 10th Indian batter to do so.

650 fours in the IPL

David Warner has also been a prolific run-scorer in the Indian Premier League. He has scored 6397 runs in 176 matches, at an average of 41.54. He is nearing the 650 fours landmark in the tournament. So far, Warner has smashed 646 boundaries and needs four more to achieve the landmark. He will become the second batter to achieve this feat, after Shikhar Dhawan.
