IPL 2024: Mayank Yadav, India’s 156.7 Kmph Speedster, Exits Mid-Match

Mayank Yadav, the young pace sensation for Lucknow Super Giants, experienced a setback during the IPL 2024 match against Gujarat Titans. Despite the anticipation surrounding his performance, Mayank had to leave the field prematurely due to a side strain, limiting him to just one over of bowling. Nevertheless, his absence didn’t hinder Lucknow’s triumph as they secured a convincing 33-run victory over Gujarat Titans.

Teammate Krunal Pandya provided reassurance by noting that Mayank appeared to be in good spirits after the match, indicating a positive outlook despite the injury setback.

This isn’t the first time Mayank has faced physical challenges in his career. Prior to this side strain, he has dealt with issues such as ankle and hamstring injuries. However, his resilience and determination have been evident throughout his journey, culminating in an impressive IPL debut where he showcased his remarkable pace, consistently exceeding speeds of 150 kmph. Notably, he even surpassed his own delivery record of 155.8 kmph set in a previous match.

Former West Indian pacer Ian Bishop emphasized the significance of protecting Mayank’s health, particularly given the demands of his high-speed bowling style. Drawing parallels with the handling of Pat Cummins’ early career injuries by Australia, Bishop urged Mayank’s franchise and the national board to prioritize his well-being for long-term success.

Lucknow’s victory was a collective effort, with standout performances from Yash Thakur, who claimed five wickets, and Krunal Pandya, who contributed three crucial dismissals. Despite resistance from Gujarat’s B Sai Sudharsan, who scored 31 runs, the team fell short of the target, managing only 130 runs in their chase of 164.

Leading Lucknow’s batting charge was Marcus Stoinis, whose composed fifty laid the foundation for their competitive total of 163 runs. Contributions from skipper KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran further bolstered Lucknow’s innings.

On the bowling front, Gujarat’s Umesh Yadav and Darshan Nalkande managed to take two wickets each, but it wasn’t sufficient to counter Lucknow’s dominant performance throughout the match.”
