IPL 2024: “Someone’s Trash Is Someone’s Treasure” – Murali Kartik Makes A Controversial Remark About Yash Dayal

Ex-Indian cricketer and commentator Murali Kartik faced backlash after making a controversial comment about Yash Dayal during the IPL 2024 match on March 25.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by four wickets in match six at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. RCB captain Faf du Plessis opted to bowl first after winning the toss.

Dayal, the left-arm fast bowler acquired by RCB for ₹5 crore in the IPL 2024 auction, delivered a cost-effective performance, conceding only 23 runs and taking one wicket in his allotted four overs.

His crucial dismissal was that of the formidable Punjab Kings all-rounder Sam Curran, who scored 23 runs off 17 balls. During the broadcast, Kartik made a contentious statement regarding the fast bowler, remarking:

“Someone’s trash is someone’s treasure.”

Kartik’s comment allegedly alluded to the bowler’s release by Gujarat Titans (GT) following a disappointing IPL 2023 season with the team. Dayal gained attention for negative reasons when he conceded five consecutive sixes in a league match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by Rinku Singh.

Kartik, a former left-arm spinner for India, faced significant criticism on social media for his contentious remark about RCB’s pacer Dayal. Here are some compiled reactions:

RCB faced considerable backlash for their IPL 2024 mini-auction tactics when they acquired Dayal for ₹5 crore and Windies pacer Alzarri Joseph for a staggering ₹11.5 crore. Dayal, aged 26, endured a disastrous IPL 2023 campaign with Gujarat Titans, managing only two wickets in five matches, with an average of 82.50 and an economy rate of 11.79.

However, he has shown improvement for Royal Challengers Bengaluru this season, securing two wickets in two matches with an average of 25.50 and an economy rate of 7.29.

Yash Dayal’s career stats briefly summarised

A left-arm medium pacer, Dayal plays for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. He debuted in first-class cricket in November 2018 against Goa in Kanpur. In 23 first-class matches, he has taken 72 wickets at an average of 29.96, with one five-wicket haul and five four-wicket hauls.

In List A cricket, Dayal has secured 32 wickets in 20 matches at an average of 23.25. He has also played 44 T20 matches, claiming 40 wickets with an average of 28.82, and a best of 3/40.
