After a thrilling 9-run win over Punjab Kings at Mullanpur on 18th April 2024, Tim David and Kieron Pollard have been fined for breaching the code of conduct. Both have been fined 20 percent of their match fees confirmed by a press release on 20th April. The reasons behind the fine have not been confirmed. It might be that Tim David for assisting MI batters with the DRS decision from the dugout.

During the match, the incident went viral where Tim David had asked batters to take a review for a wide delivery from the dugout where Pollard and other support staff were sitting. PBKS captain Sam Curran protested about this pointing to MI dugout. The umpires took the review and it was called a wide.

The assistant coach Kieron Pollard went with an argument against the onfield umpires and went onto the field trying to take the second timeout. Hardik and Rohit Sharma wanted a timeout but the batters David and Tilak Varma did not see it or ignored Kieron Pollard. Pollard and the other MI players were not allowed to enter the field by the fourth umpire during that time. Mumbai Indians made 192 for 7 in 20 overs with Suryakumar Yadav main contributor with 78.

“David and Pollard committed a Level 1 offense under Article 2.20 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. David and Pollard were each fined 20 percent of their respective match fees. Both admitted to the offense and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement further read.

“Mumbai Indians batter Tim David and Batting Coach Kieron Pollard have been fined for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct during their team’s Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 18,” IPL said via a statement on their website.

Mumbai Indians registered a close-fought 9-run win to stay alive in the tournament. Jasprit Bumrah was the main difference picking 3 for 21 including Rossouw, Sam Curran, and Shashank Singh. Coetzee took the important wicket of Ashutosh Sharma changing the match in favor of MI.

A superb throw by Nabi and gather by Ishan Kishan resulted in the run out of Rabada that helped MI register narrow win as PBKS were bundled out for 183 in 19.1 overs.
