IPL 2024

Lucknow Super Giants returned to winning ways as they chased down 177 with ease against defending Champions CSK in match number 34 of IPL 2024 played at Ekana, Lucknow on 19th April. Chasing down 177 runs to win, KL Rahul showed intent right from the word go initially before de Kock joined in the party. De Kock was given a reprieve as Pathirana dropped a sitter.

KL Rahul and de Kock kept the scoreboard ticking not allowing the CSK bowlers to settle. LSG captain KL Rahul looked in good form keeping the scoreboard ticking and hitting boundaries with ease. De Kock also proved his worth by taking singles easily. Both LSG openers made sure that they were on the course of a victory.

KL Rahul completed fifty off just 31 deliveries while de Kock played with intent and also reached his half-century off 41 balls. De Kock was eventually dismissed by Rahman for 54. De Kock and KL Rahul added 134 runs for the opening wicket.

“The incredible knocks of Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul is what changed the game for us. When you bat the way they did, the intent they showed, the batsmanship overall, I think that’s what changed the game for us today,” Matt Henry said at the post-match press conference.

Nicolas Pooran came at number 3 showing intent hitting boundaries comfortably. KL Rahul looked impressive with 82 off 53 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. He was caught by a one-handed catch by Ravindra Jadeja. Nicolas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis finished off the job as LSG won the match by 8 wickets with 1 over to spare. For his 82 off 53 deliveries, KL Rahul was named the player of the match award.

Matt Henry Made His IPL Debut For LSG

Matt Henry was named in the playing XI replacing Shamar Joseph against CSK. Henry came as a replacement for David Willey who withdrew from the IPL 2024 due to personal reasons.

Henry bowled reasonably well for LSG against CSK. He gave away 26 runs in his 3 overs. Krunal Pandya was the pick of bowlers with 2 for 16 in 3 overs.

With this win, LSG came back from losing two successive matches against DC and KKR. They remain at number 5th spot with 8 points. LSG will now travel to CSK for their reverse fixture on 23rd April.
