AB de Villiers, former RCB player, tells Virat Kohli to stay in the game during the middle part of the innings. This way, the team can do better because having a skilled player like Kohli batting for a long time is a big advantage.
De Villiers suggests that Faf du Plessis should adopt an aggressive approach during the powerplay, enabling Kohli to play his natural game. Speaking on his official YouTube channel, the former Proteas captain directly addresses Kohli about his batting role. He said:
“Hopefully, he keeps going with his good start, because RCB need that glue in the middle overs. We need him to get through the first six (overs), that’s ultimately how I want to see him play.”
”Let Faf take more risk upfront, but Virat, I want you to be there over 6-15. That’s when RCB is going to fire from all cylinders. Watch out for that.”
Assessing the franchise’s performance in the 2024 IPL season, the former dynamic batsman and fan favorite expressed optimism for an improvement in their results in the upcoming away matches before they return to their home ground.
“RCB… Started okay, but not fantastic”- AB de Villiers
After losing the first match against defending champions Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru came back with a strong win in their second game of IPL 2024 against Punjab Kings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
However, they faced defeats in the next two matches against Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants led by Faf du Plessis.
Following that, they have crucial away matches against the in-form Rajasthan Royals (April 6) and the struggling Mumbai Indians (April 11) before their next home game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday, April 15.
AB de Villiers described RCB’s beginning as ‘decent but not outstanding’ and remarked:
“RCB… not a bad start but not great. It’s in the middle, and they need a couple of wins. They will be hitting the road and hopefully, they find a good fortune away from home before they come back to the Chinnaswamy.”
Ranked ninth in the ongoing IPL 2024 points table with two points from four matches, the Royal Challengers need to overcome the disappointment of their consecutive home losses and deliver a comprehensive performance if they aim to secure victories against Rajasthan and Mumbai in their home turfs.
