In the clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Matt Henry marked his presence with a strategic move early in the game. His calculated delivery plan, switching from length balls to a fuller one, lured Ajinkya Rahane into a tempting drive.
It was a moment of brilliance when KL Rahul, the skipper of LSG, showcased exceptional fielding skills, snatching a one-handed catch to dismiss Rahane. Henry’s execution in his second match of the season was precise, as he orchestrated Rahane’s dismissal in the opening over. The strategic setup involved adjusting the slip position wider than usual, creating a corridor of uncertainty for Rahane.
The fuller delivery enticed Rahane into the drive, resulting in a slight edge that flew between the wicketkeeper and the wide slip. Rahul’s stunning effort, with minimal reaction time and considerable ground to cover, culminated in a remarkable catch.

KL Rahul at the toss said: “We’ll bowl first. There is a bit of dew, we have trained here and there is a bit of dew that will play an impact. Wicket is a bit slow and hopefully we can put their batters under pressure. (On previous win) We played well in all three facets, but we have left the result back in Lucknow. We know how challenging Chennai is, everyone will be cheering for them. Same team for us. No need to quieten the crowd, they always encourage good cricket.”
Chennai Super Kings are opted to bat first against LSG
LSG’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss remained unchanged from their previous game, while CSK made a crucial alteration by bringing in Daryl Mitchell, and dropping Rachin Ravindra for the fixture. This strategic manoeuvring underscores the tactical depth and adaptability crucial in the competitive landscape of cricket.
Ruturaj Gaikwad said: “Nothing different, but the coin toss is something I need to work on. I’ve lost seven in a row I think. There will be some dew later on, but you never know how the wicket will surprise you. You just need to go out there and express yourself, if the ball is in your area then just attack it.
Hoping to set the foundation up front. One change for us – Daryl comes in for Rachin. Pretty good to have three home games, but for that we will need to win some tosses. However, it doesn’t matter if you are batting first or bowling first, you need to play good cricket here to win.”
