IPL 2024: [WATCH]- Rohit Sharma Awarded In Dressing Room Post MI’s 29-Run Win Over DC

In an IPL 2024 match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 7, Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role by scoring 49 runs off 29 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC).

Rohit’s partnership with Ishan Kishan at the top contributed to an impressive 80-run opening stand, laying a solid foundation for MI’s massive total of 234. Despite their efforts, DC managed to reach 205/8 in their chase of the imposing target.

After starting their campaign with three consecutive losses, Mumbai Indians have finally secured their first win with a 29-run victory. Following the game against Delhi, MI’s batting coach Kieron Pollard presented Rohit with a unique badge in the dressing room.

Rohit remarked upon receiving the award:

“I thought it was a wonderful batting performance. It’s something that we all have been striving for from game one.”

”Goes to show that individual performances don’t matter if the whole batting group can stand up and put their hand up and take a look at the team’s goal; we can achieve that kind of a total.”

“You know, that’s something that we have been talking about for a long time, and it is something that the batting coach, Mark, and the captain want.”

“It was an amazing start” – Hardik Pandya views on Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan’s opening stand

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan provided remarkable performances as openers, with Rohit scoring 49 and Ishan scoring 42, respectively, after Delhi opted to field first in Sunday’s afternoon match.

Regarding the swift start, MI captain Hardik Pandya commented during the post-match ceremony:

“It was an amazing start today; always wonderful to get 70-odd in 6 overs.”

Tim David and Romario Shepherd contributed significantly to Mumbai’s strong finish, remaining not out with scores of 45 and 39, respectively. Shepherd particularly excelled by scoring 32 runs off Anrich Nortje’s bowling in the 20th over.

Praising the all-rounder’s performance, Hardik remarked:

“That was some hitting, na? (on Romario’s batting). He won us the game. Difference was Romario v Delhi Capitals. I like him. Always has a smile on his face, doesn’t run away.”

After securing their first win in IPL 2024, Mumbai has climbed to the eighth position in the standings.
