Kolkata Knight Riders will face Chennai Super Kings in match number 22 of IPL 2024 to be played at Chepauk, Chennai on 8th April. CSK would look to return to winning ways after 2 successive losses while KKR would be eager to continue their winning run as they have won 3 matches in a row.
Under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir, Kolkata Knight Riders won two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. He enjoyed his rivalry against MS Dhoni during his playing days. KKR defeated CSK in the 2012 edition chasing down 192 runs.
“I wanted to win. I am obvious in my mind. Friends, mutual respect, everything will remain. But when you are in the middle, I am captaining KKR, and he is captaining CSK. If you ask him, he will probably give you the same answer. It’s about winning. MS is the most successful captain India will ever have. I don’t think anyone can reach that level – winning 3 ICC trophies,” Gambhir told Star Sports.
KKR arrived in Chennai last week to prepare for this mega contest against CSK in their den. Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading their respective sides and hope to entertain the crowd with quality players on each side. CSK won a total of 18 matches as compared to 10 by KKR. Gambhir talked about how tough it was to beat CSK. It promises to be an exciting contest between two top-quality teams.
MS Dhoni’s role as a finisher
MS Dhoni came at number 8 during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He made just 2 deliveries, scoring 1 run. Dhoni proved his worth with a superb knock of 37 from 15 deliveries against Delhi Capitals coming lower down the order.
“But, yes, in the IPL, enjoyed every bit of it because I knew MS had that tactical mindset. He is very good tactically. He knew how to control the spinners, how to set the fields against them, and would never give up as well. He batted at No. 6 or 7, and we knew that till he was there, he could finish off the game.
KKR is currently in 2nd place with 6 points and would look for a good performance against CSK to climb up the points table.
