In Thursday’s match against Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans’ standout fast bowler Umesh Yadav reached a significant milestone. Umesh made an instant impact by dismissing PBKS’ captain Shikhar Dhawan for only 1 run in his first over as PBKS chased 200 runs in Ahmedabad.
With this wicket, Umesh surpassed his teammate Mohit Sharma, as well as Kolkata Knight Riders’ Sunil Narine and former Chennai Super Kings’ star Dwayne Bravo, achieving an impressive IPL record.
Umesh Yadav’s removal of Dhawan marked his 34th wicket against Punjab Kings, setting a new record for the most wickets taken by a bowler against a single team in the league. Previously, Umesh was tied with Mohit Sharma (33 against MI), Dwayne Bravo (33 against MI), and Sunil Narine (33 against PBKS) on the list.
Umesh Yadav has played for five different franchises in his IPL career. He started with Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils) in 2010 and stayed for four seasons. Afterward, he had two stints with KKR (2014-17 and 2022-23). In between, he spent three years with Royal Challengers Bangalore (2018-20) before briefly returning to Delhi Capitals in 2021.
Umesh Yadav has been a regular member of the Indian Test team for many years, although he was dropped from the squad last year. In the IPL, he has taken 139 wickets in 145 matches so far. His most successful season was in 2018 while playing for RCB, where he secured 20 wickets in 14 matches.
