IPL 2024: “You Can’t Replace Mohammed Shami With Anyone” – Mohit Sharma

Gujarat Titans pacer Mohit Sharma feels a player of the stature of Mohammed Shami is bound to be missed by any team. Shami has been ruled out of the 2024 Indian Premier League due to injury. He was a cog in the wheel for the Gujarat Titans in the last two seasons.

Mohammed Shami won the Purple Cap last season for the Gujarat Titans. He took 28 wickets at an average of 18.64 and an economy rate of 8.03. The pacer is suffering from an ankle injury and underwent surgery. Mohit Sharma expressed that a team is bound to miss a bowler like Mohammed Shami. However, he added that injuries are beyond control. He said,

“Any team is bound to miss a bowler like Shami, and you can’t replace him with anyone. But injuries are uncontrollable, and you must see how to move ahead with it.”

We must be patient with the new bowlers: Mohit Sharma

In Mohammed Shami’s absence, the Gujarat Titans have gone ahead with the likes of Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma, Spencer Johnson and Azmatullah Omarzai. However, the attack has taken some beating so far, especially against the Chennai Super Kings. Mohit believes that it is important to be patient. He said,

“As for GT, it’s the first year for Spencer (Johnson) and Azmatullah (Omarzai). They haven’t played much cricket yet. Therefore, we must be patient with them and not become too result-oriented.

“We must not bother about the runs leaked or the result of the contest, but how successful we are with our plans and how we are working on it backstage. These things would come in handy in the second half (of the event),” he added.

The Gujarat Titans lost to the Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday, March 26 in Chennai. They failed to chase down 207 runs and lost the match by 63. Earlier, the Shubman Gill-led team defeated the Mumbai Indians by six runs in Ahmedabad.
