Team India pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been sidelined due to an injury, underwent a successful heel operation to mend his Achilles tendon. He shared the news on his social media accounts and added that the recovery is expected to take some.
Mohammed Shami has been struggling with a heel injury for a long time. He has been out of action since India’s World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in November. So far, the pacer has missed a lot of matches, including the T20I series against Australia at home, followed by the tour of South Africa, and also the ongoing test series against England.
Earlier reports suggested that Shami is likely to undergo surgery in the United Kingdom (UK). On Monday, the pacer confirmed that he underwent surgery and will embark on his recovery journey soon. Sharing pictures on social media, Mohammed Shami said,
“Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet.”

Mohammed Shami likely to miss IPL 2024 and T20 World Cup
Team India pacer Mohammed Shami is likely to miss the 2024 Indian Premier League, which will kick off on March 22. He is also unlikely to be available for the T20 World Cup which is set to take place after the IPL. The mega-event begins in June Caribbean and the USA.
The pacer’s absence will be a huge concern. He was one of India’s top performers at the ODI World Cup last year. He took 24 wickets in seven matches at an average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20. Shami played the tournament while being injured, and took injections to treat his ankle. His recovery timeline is expected to rule him out of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 season, as well as the T20 World Cup 2024.
