IPL 2025: AB de Villiers Praises Jasprit Bumrah After MI’s Win vs GT

Jasprit Bumrah delivered a clinical performance in the IPL 2025 Eliminator, helping Mumbai Indians (MI) defeat Gujarat Titans (GT) by 20 runs. Defending a massive 228/5, Bumrah’s exceptional bowling figures of 1/27 and a stingy economy rate of 6.75 proved pivotal.

His accurate leg-stump yorker dismissed Washington Sundar, breaking an 84-run partnership with B Sai Sudharsan. That breakthrough shifted momentum toward MI, allowing them to restrict GT to 208/6 and earn a spot in Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The winner of that match will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final on June 3.

AB de Villiers Praises Bumrah’s Match-Winning Impact

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers, analyzing the game on JioHotstar, remarked that a cricket match isn’t truly over until Bumrah finishes his spell—a sentiment he even shared with his son during the match.

He credited MI captain Hardik Pandya for using Bumrah wisely, delaying his final two overs until the pressure was highest. De Villiers pointed out how crucial Bumrah’s final spell was, especially as Sudharsan was beginning to look dangerous. “He just keeps delivering in big moments,” de Villiers said, highlighting Bumrah’s ability to rise to the occasion when it matters most.

Sudharsan’s Dismissal and GT’s Downfall

AB de Villiers also identified Sai Sudharsan’s wicket as another crucial turning point. The tournament’s top scorer fell to Richard Gleeson in the 16th over after attempting a shot he had consistently executed throughout the season.

“That shot had worked all season, but failed when GT needed it most,” said de Villiers. Despite the setbacks, GT kept the game competitive, but a series of errors—including dropped catches and accidental dismissals—undermined their chase. De Villiers acknowledged the Titans’ resilience but emphasized that small missteps at critical junctures cost them the match.

In summary, Mumbai Indians’ victory was built on a combination of strategic captaincy, Bumrah’s world-class bowling, and timely dismissals, leaving GT ruing missed opportunities as MI march ahead in the tournament.
