IPL 2025: Axar Patel Gives Important Update On Hand Injury Following DC’s 14-Run Defeat To KKR

Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel provided an update on his hand injury following their 14-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2025 match on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The left-arm spinner explained that the skin on his hand had peeled off after it was dragged along the surface, causing pain when he was batting.

The incident took place in the 18th over of KKR’s innings when Axar made a full-stretch dive to stop some runs off Rovman Powell’s shot, bowled by leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam. He was visibly in pain and quickly left the field with Capitals’ lead physio Patrick Farhat.

Consequently, Faf du Plessis stepped in as captain for the remaining 2.2 overs of KKR’s innings. In the post-match presentation, the 31-year-old shared the details, as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo:

“I dragged my palm across the [practice] wicket so my skin peeled off. Whenever I tried to hit the ball and the handle brushed [the hand], I felt a lot of pain but the good thing is we have a three-four day break. Then we play SRH. It would be great if it gets alright by then.”

“Sometimes luck is on your side, and other times it works against you”- Axar Patel

Axar Patel believed that the Capitals conceded 15-20 extra runs while bowling but noted that there was hardly any difference between the two teams, considering the narrow margin of defeat.

“The way we bowled in the powerplay, thought we gave 15-20 too many. in the chase, there were some miscalculations and soft dismissals. The way we restricted them after the powerplay was good. The way we batted, even if two-three batters did well, we lost by very little.”

“When you lose close matches, you know you have to be calm in the middle. When Vipraj was scoring runs, we had hopes. If Ashutosh would have stayed, it would have helped. Luck sometimes works in your favour and sometimes against.”

Delhi Capitals’ (DC) next match is against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday, May 5, 2025.
