The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is all set to commence on March 22, and cricket enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly waiting for the tournament. The opening match will witness Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, promising an electrifying start to the season. However, concerns have emerged over the security arrangements for the April 6 match between KKR and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) due to the Ram Navami festival.
CAB Contacts Sports Minister for Security Arrangements
A recent report from India Today suggests that Kolkata Police has raised concerns over security for the April 6 match. The issue stems from the coinciding of the game with the Ram Navami festival, a major Hindu religious event.
In 2024, a similar issue led to a rescheduling of a match in Kolkata. To prevent a repeat of that situation, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has reached out to Sports Minister Aroop Biswas for a solution. The minister has assured efforts to collaborate with the police and ensure that the match proceeds as scheduled.
Key dates include Qualifier 2 on May 23 and the final match on May 25, both to be held at Eden Gardens. With this iconic venue hosting such crucial matches, the anticipation and excitement among fans are palpable.
New Captains for KKR in IPL 2025
KKR, the defending champions, have announced Ajinkya Rahane as their new captain, with Venkatesh Iyer serving as vice-captain. This move has been welcomed by fans and management alike.
KKR CEO Venky Mysore’s Statement on Rahane’s Captaincy
Venky Mysore expressed confidence in Rahane, stating, “We are delighted to have someone like Ajinkya Rahane, who brings his experience and maturity as a leader.”
Meanwhile, LSG has also introduced a new captain. The franchise secured a star Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant for a record-breaking 27 Crore, making him one of the most expensive buys in IPL history.

KKR’s Training Camp Begins on March 12
KKR has already started gearing up for the tournament, with their training camp set to commence on March 12 at Eden Gardens. With a mix of experienced players and promising youngsters, the team is preparing rigorously to defend their title. Having won the IPL 2024 title, KKR will be keen on retaining their championship. With a new captain at the helm and a strong squad, they remain one of the favorites for the season.
