Gujarat Titans have become the first team to secure a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs after a commanding win over Delhi Capitals. The victory, powered by stellar performances from Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, overshadowed KL Rahul’s century.
With two matches left, the Titans can still accumulate up to 22 points, making them strong contenders for a Top 2 finish. This Top 2 placement is crucial as it provides two opportunities to qualify for the final. Their consistent form throughout the season has made them one of the favourites to lift the trophy.
RCB and Punjab Kings Book Their Playoff Spots
Gujarat’s triumph not only helped them but also paved the way for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) to make it to the playoffs. RCB, with two matches remaining, can reach 21 points and aim for a Top 2 finish if Gujarat loses one of their upcoming matches.
Similarly, Punjab Kings have secured a place in the Top 4 and could end in the Top 2 if they win both remaining matches and either GT or RCB falter. Led by Shreyas Iyer, PBKS have been consistent performers and now have their sights set on securing that extra advantage of finishing in the Top 2.
Do-Or-Die Situations for MI, DC, and LSG
While three teams have already advanced, the battle for the final playoff spot is heating up. Mumbai Indians (MI) must win both their remaining matches to reach 18 points. Their superior Net Run Rate (NRR) could be a key factor if there’s a tie on points. Delhi Capitals (DC), after their loss to GT, also need to win both upcoming games, which would take them to 17 points.
However, their qualification will depend not just on results but also on NRR. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face the steepest climb, needing to win all three of their remaining matches. Even then, they would reach only 16 points, and their playoff hopes would heavily rely on a favourable NRR and other teams dropping points. With the group stage nearing its end, the playoff race remains intense, and the coming fixtures will be decisive for these three sides.
