IPL 2025: Playoffs Qualification Scenario Explained

As the IPL 2025 season enters its final stages, the competition for the top four spots has become intense. Three teams—Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK)—are already out of the playoff race. The match between SRH and Delhi Capitals was abandoned due to a wet outfield, confirming SRH’s exit.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), led by Rajat Patidar, are currently leading the playoff race with 16 points from 11 matches. A single win in their remaining matches will almost confirm their place in the Top 4, while two wins could secure a Top 2 finish. RCB appear to be in complete control of their destiny.

Close Contest Among Other Contenders

Punjab Kings (PBKS) boosted their playoff hopes with a crucial win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Two wins in their next three games will secure qualification, but even one win might be enough if their Net Run Rate (NRR) stays favorable and other results go in their favor.

Mumbai Indians (MI), under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, have been on a six-match winning streak. With 14 points from 11 games, MI needs just two wins from their last three matches to ensure a place in the Top 4. Gujarat Titans (GT), with 14 points from just 10 games, also have a strong chance.

They need only two wins in their final four matches to confirm a playoff berth and stay in contention for a second IPL title. Delhi Capitals (DC), after their abandoned match, still have hopes alive. They must win at least two of their remaining three matches to stay in the hunt.

Tougher Path for the Remaining Teams

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have a simple but difficult scenario. They must win all their remaining three matches, taking them to 17 points. However, qualification would still depend on their NRR and the outcomes of other matches. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face the most difficult challenge.

They must win all three of their remaining games to reach 16 points. Even then, their playoff hopes rest entirely on how other teams perform. As the league nears its end, every match and every run could make the difference in what has become a thrilling and unpredictable playoff race.
