The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made a stunning comeback in IPL 2025, turning their fortunes around in just a few days. After a disappointing start with a loss against Delhi Capitals, the mood in the LSG camp was somber, with owner Sanjiv Goenka addressing the team in a tense dressing room.
However, their emphatic five-wicket victory over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 27 completely changed the atmosphere. LSG chased down a challenging target of 191 runs in just 16.1 overs, registering their first win of the season. Goenka, overwhelmed with joy, celebrated the triumph by embracing captain Rishabh Pant and congratulating the team’s leadership, including mentor Zaheer Khan.
LSG’s win was particularly impressive as they faced an in-form SRH team that had set the tournament ablaze with a record-breaking 286-run total in their previous match against Rajasthan Royals. Despite their bowling unit being affected by injuries, LSG bowlers stepped up to the challenge, restricting SRH to 190/9 in 20 overs. The team’s all-round performance not only silenced doubts about their capabilities but also set a strong tone for the rest of the tournament.

Bowlers Shine as LSG Restricts SRH
Few expected LSG’s depleted bowling attack to hold SRH’s explosive batting lineup in check, but the team exceeded expectations. Shardul Thakur led the charge with an exceptional four-wicket haul, dismissing key batters Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan early in the powerplay. His disciplined bowling set the stage for LSG to take control of the game. The rest of the attack supported him well, ensuring that SRH couldn’t capitalize on their batting strength.
After limiting SRH to a below-par total compared to their previous match, LSG’s batters capitalized on the momentum. Nicholas Pooran played a blistering knock, smashing 70 runs off just 26 balls, while Mitchell Marsh contributed with a well-crafted 52 off 31 balls. The aggressive batting display left SRH bowlers struggling as LSG chased the target with ease, completing the chase in just 16.1 overs.
Rishabh Pant’s Leadership and LSG’s Bright Future
Although Rishabh Pant had a quiet game with the bat, scoring only 15 runs, his captaincy played a crucial role in LSG’s victory. He looked far more composed than in the previous match, showing confidence behind the stumps and making key tactical decisions. His leadership helped the team stay focused, ensuring they executed their game plan effectively.
As the final runs were scored, Pant was seen cheering from the dugout, visibly relieved and ecstatic. Owner Sanjiv Goenka’s heartfelt hug symbolized not just the joy of winning but also faith in the team’s abilities. With this resounding victory, LSG has signaled its intent in IPL 2025 and will look to carry forward this momentum in the upcoming matches.
