Mumbai Indians (MI) star batter Suryakumar Yadav has etched his name in the record books by becoming the franchise’s highest run-scorer in a single IPL season, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar had held the record since 2010, when he amassed 618 runs at an average of 47.53 and a strike rate of 132.61, including five half-centuries. He also won the Orange Cap that season.
Suryakumar, who has been in sensational form throughout IPL 2025, scored a fluent 57 off 39 balls against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. His knock included six fours and two sixes, delivered at a strike rate of 146.15. With this innings, he broke Tendulkar’s 15-year-old record, becoming MI’s top scorer in a single IPL campaign.
Suryakumar now has 638 runs in 14 matches at an outstanding average of 79.75 and a strike rate of 169.23, with five fifties to his name. Notably, he had come close in 2023, finishing with 605 runs, just shy of Tendulkar’s mark.

Despite a poor start to their campaign—losing four of their first five games—Mumbai Indians staged a remarkable comeback, winning six consecutive matches. Suryakumar played a key role in this resurgence, helping the team secure a playoff berth as the fourth qualifier.
Now, as MI eyes a record-extending sixth IPL title, his continued form will be vital. The team will be counting on him to maintain his scoring momentum during the playoffs.
