Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Rahul Dravid, impressed by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s impressive debut IPL season, offered the young talent some straightforward yet valuable advice. Drawing from his extensive experience during an encouraging post-match conversation on Tuesday, the India cricket legend urged the 14-year-old to “keep improving.”
Dravid also cautioned the youngster to be prepared, as bowlers will come back stronger and more challenging next season.
“It was a really good season for you. Continue this way. Keep working hard and keep in mind, since you’ve done so well this season, all these opposition bowlers you see will get back,” Dravid told Suryavanshi in a video shared by IPL.
“They are going to come better prepared and so we must also work harder and prepare even better. You must continue improving, developing new skills. So when next season we get back together, you are a better player,” he added.
Suryavanshi Shows Respect to Dravid, Shares Season Insights
Suryavanshi concluded the conversation by respectfully touching Dravid’s feet, earning a congratulatory pat on the back from the Royals’ motivating coach. Earlier, Dravid asked Suryavanshi about his season’s lessons and teased him when he praised the coach’s support.
“It was a great season, sir. I practised under you, the coaching staff,” Suryavanshi said, before Dravid interrupted: “You need not say that. Don’t worry, you’ve got my points,” as both erupted in laughter.
Rahul Dravid then inquired about Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s preparation before the season and the key lessons he had taken away from his debut IPL campaign.
“We spent 3-4 months preparing and practicing, and it showed in our performance. The tough challenges became easier thanks to the intense training we underwent,” replied Suryavanshi, who scored 57 off 33 balls to guide RR in chasing down CSK’s 187, securing their fourth consolation win from 14 league matches.
“I’ve learnt that I must stay focused and that natural game is nothing, I must adjust my game according to the team demands and make my side win. And at this level, I need not try too much extra and must back my strengths while aligning them with the team needs.” he said.
After his record century against Gujarat Titans, Suryavanshi received many calls but switched off his phone to stay focused. Bought for Rs 1.10 crores, he finished IPL 2025 with 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.55.
