Mumbai Indians (MI) wasted a final-ball run-out chance, resulting in a three-wicket loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) in a nail-biting IPL 2025 match at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6. Hardik Pandya missed a direct hit, and Deepak Chahar failed to cover the stumps, which could have forced a Super Over.
After rain interruptions, the game was reduced to a one-over shootout, with GT needing 15 runs under the DLS method. With Bumrah and Boult having completed their spells, Chahar was handed the final over but struggled with the old ball, conceding boundaries and a no-ball.
With one run needed off the last delivery, Arshad Khan hit the ball to mid-off and sprinted for a single. Pandya collected the ball but, finding no one backing up at the stumps, aimed for a direct hit. His throw missed, allowing GT to seal a dramatic win.

MI’s winning streak ended with a narrow loss to GT. Before this match, the Hardik Pandya-led team had built strong playoff momentum with six consecutive victories.
“A game of margins”- Hardik Pandya on MI’s loss to GT
GT were trailing on DLS when rain returned before the second-last over, but it cleared in time for the final over. Earlier, GT were in control of the chase but lost momentum after quick dismissals of Shubman Gill and Sherfane Rutherford post the first rain break.
“Definitely a tough way to go down. But we fought well, especially with the kind of total we had. It was definitely not a 155-run wicket. We were short by 10-15 runs or maybe 30 runs. But we kept fighting. It was a game of margins,” Pandya told the broadcasters after the match.
Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) next in Dharamsala on Sunday, May 11.
