India batter Rohit Sharma appeared to brush aside the growing speculation over his ODI future ahead of the series decider against England at Lord’s, suggesting that the external noise was not affecting him.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Rohit was seen chatting with India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, seemingly remarking that the outside chatter was of little concern to them. The speculation began during the second ODI in Cardiff, with reports claiming that the Lord’s clash could mark Rohit’s final ODI appearance for India.
The rumours quickly gained traction before BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed them, clarifying that the Lord’s ODI would not be Rohit’s last in the format. As the Indian team arrived for practice at Lord’s, Rohit was once again seen in conversation with Kotak, appearing relaxed despite the ongoing speculation.
“Hum log ko bahar kya chal raha hai, us se humko kya (We have nothing to do with what is going on outside),” Rohit can be heard as saying in the video.

Selectors Reportedly Informed Rohit Sharma About Their Future Plans
According to NDTV, sources said that some members of the selection committee had informed Rohit Sharma ahead of last month’s Afghanistan ODI series that he was no longer part of their long-term plans.
The report added that India head coach Gautam Gambhir was also aware of the discussions between the selectors and Rohit. Despite that, the veteran opener was picked for both the Afghanistan and England ODI series after reportedly holding talks with senior BCCI officials.
One of India’s finest ODI batters, Rohit has scored over 11,700 runs in the format. He was instrumental in India’s run to the 2023 ODI World Cup final and later captained the team to the 2025 Champions Trophy title.
While Shubman Gill took over the ODI captaincy after that triumph, Rohit has continued to be an experienced presence at the top of the order and an important member of the Indian side.
