After Mumbai Indians’ massive 100-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, skipper Hardik Pandya highlighted the importance of remaining grounded. With this being MI’s sixth consecutive win in the IPL, Pandya emphasized the significance of staying focused.
“Everyone is very clear and we are going back to simple cricket, it is working for us and hopefully it continues. We want to be humble, very disciplined and keep focusing,” said Hardik during the post-match presentation.
He also reflected on the team’s strategy during the innings, noting that there was room for improvement. “We could have got another 15 runs. What we were trying to speak to each other was to play percentage shots. Surya and I said there’s value for shots… Ro (Rohit) and Ryan batted the same way. I think it was absolutely fantastic.”
MI’s commanding performance with the bat saw them post 217 for 2, leaving RR struggling to catch up throughout the game.
Focus on Batsmanship and Team Strategy
Hardik Pandya underlined the importance of playing according to the demands of the game, rather than focusing on individual performances. “It is never about people getting chances; it’s about what is required in the situation. People are going back to batsmanship. As a group, the way we batted was a proper batsmanship.”
Mumbai Indian’s balanced approach and ability to execute their plans effectively led to their dominance in the match. Players like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tim David all played smart, calculated innings, highlighting the team’s collective focus on doing what was needed rather than flashy performances.
The strategy of sticking to basics and playing according to the situation is working in MI’s favor, and the team is keen on continuing this approach in the upcoming matches.
Riyan Parag Reflects on RR’s Missed Opportunities
Rajasthan Royals’ stand-in captain Riyan Parag admitted that the Mumbai Indians’ batters were simply too good on the day.
“We have to give credit to the way MI played. The way they batted, took the game a little deep, kept the 10 runs per over consistency and accelerated in the end. As far as our batting is concerned it wasn’t our day.” While RR showed strength earlier in the tournament, Parag acknowledged the need for the middle order to take more responsibility.
“We have been getting good starts but it is up to the middle order – myself, Dhruv, for us to step up when we lose wickets in the powerplay, but we still back ourselves, if another situation (like today) comes up then we will be up for it.”
He concluded by evaluating their season overall: “We have done a lot of things right, lot of things wrong, we want to focus on the things we have done right, lot of mistakes, lot of small errors, focus on how to not make them and we have had a few close matches.”
