IPL 2025: Zaheer Khan Opines On Their Preparation Amid LSG’s Injury Woes

As the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season approaches, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are grappling with multiple injuries in their pace department. Mentor Zaheer Khan addressed the challenges, stressing the importance of adaptability in a dynamic tournament like the IPL.

The team, led by Rishabh Pant, is set to begin its campaign at the ACAVDCA Cricket Stadium on March 24, but the availability of key bowlers like Mayank Yadav, Akash Deep, Mohsin Khan, and Avesh Khan remains uncertain.

Zaheer acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the league, stating that teams must be prepared for unexpected setbacks. He emphasized that with a squad of 24 players, LSG would focus on maintaining their style of play and securing victories despite the injury concerns.

Mayank Yadav’s Injury and Road to Recovery

The most significant setback for LSG’s bowling lineup is the unavailability of Mayank Yadav, a young pacer known for his raw speed. Currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Mayank is recovering from a lumbar stress injury sustained after his international debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh last October.

Though earlier reports suggested he might miss the first half of the IPL, his recent return to net sessions has raised hopes for an earlier comeback.

Last season, the 22-year-old made an instant impact by consistently bowling over 150 kmph, claiming seven wickets in just four matches before injury sidelined him. His performances also earned him two consecutive Player of the Match awards, making him a key asset for LSG. The franchise eagerly awaits clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding his fitness.

LSG’s Strategy to Counter Bowling Setbacks

With injuries threatening to weaken their bowling attack, LSG is exploring alternatives to ensure a strong start to the season. In the absence of their frontline pacers, the team has been assessing options like Shardul Thakur and Shivam Mavi, who were recently spotted bowling in the nets. Zaheer Khan stressed that rather than dwelling on injuries, the team’s focus remains on playing quality cricket.

He expressed confidence in captain Rishabh Pant’s leadership and reiterated that LSG has a well-rounded squad capable of adapting to any situation. As the season opener nears, the franchise will be hoping for swift recoveries while ensuring their squad depth covers any gaps caused by injuries.
