The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured a thrilling 5-wicket victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, May 10. In a high-scoring encounter that saw over 400 runs, the “Yellow Army” chased down a formidable target of 204 with four balls to spare, ending their historic struggle with high-score chases.

After winning the toss and electing to field, CSK faced an initial onslaught from LSG’s Josh Inglis. The Australian batter delivered a 360-degree masterclass, smashing 85 runs off just 33 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and 6 sixes. However, Chennai’s bowling unit staged a remarkable comeback through the middle overs.

Anshul Kamboj provided the first breakthrough in the 6th over, dismissing Mitchell Marsh (10), while the economical Noor Ahmad (1/24) removed the dangerous Nicholas Pooran (1) in the 7th over. Jamie Overton was the pick of the bowlers with 3/36, including the prized wickets of Inglis and Rishabh Pant (15) in a single over.

Despite a late unbeaten 43 off 25* from Shahbaz Ahmed, Lucknow was restricted to 203/8.

The chase began with early fireworks from Sanju Samson (28 off 14), but the game truly changed with the arrival of Urvil Patel. Patel produced a historic performance, equaling the all-time IPL record for the fastest fifty in just 13 balls. His destructive 65 off 23 balls included 8 towering sixes, effectively breaking the back of the chase.

Following his departure, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad provided stability with a composed 42 off 28 balls. As the game reached a tense climax, Shivam Dube (15)* and Prashant Veer (17)* remained calm under pressure.

The pair guided Chennai to 208/5 in 19.2 overs, knocking LSG out of the playoff race and keeping CSK’s own qualification hopes firmly alive.
