IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have been granted approval by the BCCI to send their fast bowlers to train during the SA20 2026, according to a report by Cricbuzz. South Africa’s flagship franchise T20 league is set to begin its next season on December 26. The report states that Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan are the two pacers shortlisted for the training stint, with another quick, Naman Tiwary, also a possible addition.
Although none of the three are currently under BCCI contracts or representing their state teams, LSG still approached the board for clearance. They are likely to train with Durban Super Giants, LSG’s sister franchise, during the SA20. Both Avesh and Mohsin have been out of competitive cricket for some time. Avesh last featured in IPL 2025, while Mohsin missed the entire season due to injury.
LSG views the SA20 window as a valuable chance for the bowlers to regain fitness and sharpen their skills ahead of the next IPL season, scheduled to start on March 26. Additionally, the Durban Super Giants’ support staff includes Lance Klusener, Tom Moody, Bharat Arun, and Carl Crowe — all of whom also serve in similar roles with LSG in the IPL setup.
Lucknow Super Giants squad for the IPL 2026 season
Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, Lucknow Super Giants retained a bulk of their core from the previous season. The retained group featured Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, Aiden Markram, Matthew Breetzke, Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, Himmat Singh, Mitchell Marsh, Shahbaz Ahmed, Arshin Kulkarni, Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, Manimaran Siddharth, Digvesh Rathi, Akash Singh, and Prince Yadav.
At the auction table, LSG focused on bolstering their lineup by bringing in three high-profile overseas recruits — Josh Inglis, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Anrich Nortje. Inglis was picked up for ₹8.6 crore, while both Hasaranga and Nortje were snapped up at their base price of ₹2 crore each.
The franchise also strengthened its Indian domestic contingent by signing Mukul Choudhary for ₹2.60 crore, Akshat Raghuwanshi for ₹2.20 crore, and Naman Tiwari for ₹1 crore. After finishing seventh last season, LSG will be aiming to deliver a stronger performance in the upcoming campaign.
