A few days back the Kolkata Knight Riders registered a thumping win against over Rajasthan Royals. This was the first for the Royals in IPL 2020. However, the story could have been different if Royals dismissed Eoin Morgan early in the first innings.
Morgan came out to bat with the match hanging in the balance at Dubai. Jofra Archer who was turning it up with pace and bounce surprisingly didn’t target his England captain with bouncers. Even Tom Curran too was reluctant to bowl some sweet chin music at his white-ball skipper.
Surprised To See Jofra Archer Not Bowling Bouncers At Morgan – Sunil Gavaskar
The legendary Sunil Gavaskar spotted it on air and was shocked by the tactics the two fast bowlers employed against their international skipper. It’s a well-known fact that early on Morgan is unsure when he faces rising deliveries from fast bowlers at pace.
Gavaskar said, “This is a nice, juicy full-toss given by Tom Curran to his limited-overs captain. Here captain hit it and he has accepted it”.
“Jofra Archer also, when he bowled that previous over to Morgan, didn’t bowl a bouncer. Morgan had just been hit on the helmet, you would expect that your quickest bowler would bowl a bouncer. No, he didn’t bowl that bouncer”, said Gavaskar on air.
The pacers of Rajasthan Royals were keen on bowling full deliveries to Morgan which didn’t trouble him one bit. Morgan smashed the Royals in the death overs and took the KKR total to a respectable 174. In the end, Morgan scored a quickfire 34 from 23 balls and took the match away from RR.
Meanwhile, a late onslaught from Morgan proved to be too much for the Royals as they lost by 37 runs. Sunil Gavaskar was spot on with his observation by pointing it out that both Archer and Curran have allowed their England skipper to score runs and take KKR to a match-winning total.
