Following the washout in the first ODI, Ireland and South Africa will be moving on to the 2nd ODI which is set to be played on July 13 at the same venue, i.e. Dublin. Both the teams earned a crucial five points for the Super League from the game.
After being asked to bat first in the opener, Ireland put up a decent performance. They reached 195 at the end of 40 overs. Unfortunately, the rain played spoilsport and it was a stop-start innings throughout. Eventually, the umpires decided to call off the match. There were twin fifties from experienced Irish campaigners, Porterfield and Balbirnie.

That can be a positive for Ireland to take going into the second ODI. The team is unlikely to change considering they weren’t really tested. It will be another opportunity for Paul Stirling to fire after he failed to impress in the first try.
South Africa would have backed themselves to chase down whatever the Irish put up. If the rain stayed away, a cracking contest was on the cards. Going into the match, South Africa rested Quinton de Kock while Anrich Nortje was injured. Whether Nortje will recover in time to play the second game is yet to be seen.

Kyle Verreynne was South Africa’s keeping choice instead of de Kock, and he should be given another go in the second ODI. They went in with two spinners in the previous game, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi. These spinners add a variety to the pace bowling attack that South Africa possess.

There shouldn’t be a lot of difference from the previous game. The pitch didn’t offer a lot of assistance to the spinners the previous time around. That trend is set to continue. There should be plenty of boundaries for the batsmen to pick up. On getting set, a batsman should be able to play a long innings.
