Former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers recently addressed the idea of making a return to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL. The explosive batter, who retired from all forms of cricket after the 2021 season, responded to a fan’s query during a live session on his YouTube channel ‘AB de Villiers 360’.
When asked about a potential comeback to RCB, the 41-year-old made it clear that he won’t be returning as a player. At (20:42), he said:
“I get goosebumps when I think of it, I promise you. It would have been so nice, but I am done and dusted. I am 41 years old, one eye is troubling me a bit. I am going to play a bit of casual cricket. Competitive, but casual.
“There will be too much pressure when I go into the IPL for RCB again. I will expect too much of myself. Having not played for many years, the level is really, really high there. I don’t know, never say never I guess, but I don’t think so guys.”
AB de Villiers Reveals His IPL 2025 Playoff Predictions
In a recent live session on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers shared his picks for the four teams he believes will make it to the IPL 2025 playoffs. Alongside his former team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he predicted Gujarat Titans (GT), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) to complete the top four.
Notably, RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, have been in exceptional form this season. They currently sit at the top of the IPL 2025 points table with seven wins in ten matches and made history by becoming the first team to win six consecutive away games in a single season.
Their next challenge will be against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 3.
