“I’ve Got No Regrets” – David Warner Reflects On His Career After Announcing ODI Retirement

Australian opener David Warner reveals having no regrets in his career having mended his reputation that was tarnished due to the 2018 ball-tampering scandal. He announced his retirement from ODI cricket on Monday, January 1. He will also retire from Test cricket following the test against Pakistan at his home ground in Sydney.

David Warner has had a lot of ups and downs in his career. The 2018 Ball-tampering saga was a very low point of his career. He faced a ban for a year and was stripped of the Vice-Captaincy role. Warner expressed that everyone has to go through a lot of hurdles in their career. The left-handed batter also expressed that he has no regrets in his career. David Warner said,

“Reflecting on that whole period, my whole career, I’ve got no regrets, because you’re going to have a lot of hurdles that you have to jump. There’s going to be obstacles in the way. But you have to move forward.”

“I’ve done that with dignity. I’ve come back and I have got a lot of passion for the game. And it was important from my perspective to make sure that I’ve given back. I (wanted to make) sure that I’ve not just gained the respect back, but making sure that I’m putting Australian cricket first,” he added.

I’ve surprised myself at being able to play all three forms as well: David Warner

Australian batter David Warner has won ICC World Titles across all the formats. He finished as their leading run-scorer in the 2023 ODI World Cup, powering them to a title win. He had indicated that he might play till the next ODI World Cup, however, due to various commitments he has to quit Test and ODI cricket. David Warner said,

“I want every young kid who wants to play cricket to dream of playing for Australia and that was important to me when I came back. I’ve surprised myself at being able to play all three forms as well. It’s been very difficult, especially having three young children come along as well,” he said.

“I am keen to pursue playing Big Bash again next year. There’s going to be conversations behind the scenes to allow me to do that,” he added.
