The first Mumbai Cricket Association Women’s league got underway on Tuesday, March 8. Fort Youngsters batters Janhvi Kate and Riya Chaudhari stole the show with their blistering knocks in the T20 game against the Mandvi Muslim Sports Club at the Cross Maidan on the opening day of the tournament. Their unbeaten stand powered Fort Youngsters to a huge win to kick off their campaign.

The Fort Youngsters won the toss and elected to bat first. Janhvi Kate and Riya Chaudhari opened the innings and got the team off to a flying start. They took on the Mandvi Muslim Sports club bowlers and smashed them all over the park. The duo put on an unbeaten opening stand of a massive 313 runs in twenty overs. Janhvi Kate scored 185 runs off just seventy deliveries, with thirty-five boundaries and four sixes. Meanwhile, Riya Chaudhari slammed 111 runs off 53 balls, with eighteen boundaries.

Fort Youngsters pull off a big win against the Mandvi Muslim Sports Club in MCA Women’s League

In response to Fort Youngster’s total, the Mandvi Muslim Sports Club put up a dismal batting performance. They were bowled out for a paltry 19 runs. Batul Pereira took three wickets conceding just a run, while Himaja Patil took three wickets for six runs. The Fort Youngsters registered a huge win of 294 runs to kick off the MCA Women’s League and make Women’s day memorable.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Mumbai Cricket Association launched the first-ever MCA Women’s League. Former Team India cricketer and an active member of the BCCI CAC, Sulakshana Naik inaugurated the league at the Karnatak Sporting Association ground, Cross Maidan. MCA officials, Vice-President, Sanjay Naik, Secretary, Ajinkya Naik, Joint Secretary, Deepak Patil, Apex Council Members, and MCA Women’s selectors were present at the event. Mumbai’s prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket, Sarfaraz Khan also graced the occasion with his presence. The tournament features 52 clubs divided into thirteen groups.
