Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev Unadkat created history as he became the first-ever bowler in the Ranji Trophy tournament to take a hat trick in the first over. He achieved this unique feat during the 1st day of the 4th round match against Delhi at Saurashtra Cricket Stadium, Rajkot on 3 January 2023.

Delhi captain Yash Dhull won the toss and decided to bowl first. Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat produced a magical spell as he castled Dhruv Shorey’s stumps. He then dismissed Valibhai Rawal and Delhi captain Yash Dhull to pick up the hattrick. It was a remarkable start for Saurashtra as Unadkat showed his skills.

He continued his stunning form getting wickets of Jonty Sidhu and Lalit Yadav to pick 5 wickets leaving Delhi in dire straits at 5 for 6. Unadkat then grabbed the wicket of Lakshay Thareja to put Delhi under severe pressure. Shivank Vashisht and Hrithik Shokeen put on 80 runs for the 9th wicket.

Unadkat got wickets of Vashisht and then Kuldip Yadav to bowl out Delhi cheaply at 133. Unadkat led from the front with figures of 8 for 39 in 12 overs. His 8 wickets for 39 are the best figures by a Saurashtra bowler in first-class cricket. Saurashtra ended the first day in a dominating position with 184 for 1.

Jaydev Unadkat played a key role in helping Saurashtra win their maiden Ranji Trophy title during the 2019/20 season.

Sensational run for Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev Unadkat had a dream run for Saurashtra in recent times. He led Saurashtra to win 2022/23 Vijay Hazare Trophy defeating Maharashtra. Unadkat was the leading wicket in the tournament with 19 wickets.

The left-arm pacer was named as a replacement for Mohammed Shami in the Test series against Bangladesh. He was included in the playing XI during the 2nd Test match played at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka after making his Test debut 12 years ago.

He bowled with venom on the first day getting rid of Zakir Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. It was another superb effort by Jaydev Unadkat in the second innings also. He grabbed the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan.
