Joe Root was at his best playing innovative strokes in the international league T20 tournament. He opened the innings for Dubai Capitals against Mumbai Indians Emirates played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on 22 January 2023.
Mumbai Indians Emirates captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and decided to field first. Joe Root opened the innings for the Capitals along with Robin Uthappa. Root and Uthappa provided a flying start putting on 78 runs for the opening wicket laying a strong foundation for a massive total.
Dubai Capitals captain Rovman Powell joined in and provided powerful display of hitting. On other hand, Root played innovative sweeps. He reverse-swept Naveen UL Haq for a six. Root was eventually dismissed for 82 off 54 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes. Root and Powell added 119 runs for the 2nd wicket. Dubai Capitals posted a massive total of 222 for 3 in 20 overs.
Mumbai Indian Emirates looked in deep trouble as they lost 3 quick wickets with the scoreboard reading 26 for 3. Kieron Pollard provided brutal hitting with 86 off 38 balls including 8 fours and 6 sixes. Pollard and Fletcher added 118 runs for the 4th wicket. MI Emirates chased down the target with 5 wickets remaining on the last delivery.

Root proved his T20 credentials with an unbeaten 80 off 54 balls against Sharjah Warriors on 21 January 2023. He made the batting look easy and created a major impact. Despite his knock, Dubai Capitals lost the match by 7 wickets as Kohler Cadmore made an unbeaten 106 off 47 balls to help Sharjah Warrior chase down the target of 178 with 32 balls to spare.
Joe Root to play Indian Premier League for the first time
Joe Root will be playing the most popular league in the world, Indian Premier League for the first time this year. He was taken by Rajasthan Royals for a base price of 1 Crore.
Known as one of the best Test batters in modern-day cricket, Root has not performed well for England in the shortest format with only 32 T20I matches (30 innings) and made just 893 runs with the highest score of 90 not out.
Root would be hoping to showcase his aggressive abilities for Rajasthan Royals if given a chance in the playing XI.
