Rajasthan Royals pacer Jofra Archer has been given the green signal to resume training after successful surgery of his right hand. Archer had recently undergone surgery on his right hand and is currently not part of the RR squad for IPL 2021. This gives his IPL franchise a lot of hope of him rejoining the squad quickly. The Royals lost a close encounter against Punjab Kings in their opening match in IPL 2021.

Jofra Archer had suffered a freak accident in January while cleaning a fish tank at his home. He had to undergo surgery to remove a glass fragment from a tendon on his right hand. He was already undergoing treatment for an elbow injury which forced him to pull out of the start of IPL 2021. However, the pacer can now start training, raising hopes of his comeback for RR.

Jofra Archer Completes Successful Hand Surgery

“Archer has been given the all-clear by his hand consultant to resume training after his right hand continues to heal following his operation. He will return to light training this week, working closely with the Sussex and England men’s medical teams. It’s hoped that he will be able to up his intensity with his bowling from next week.
“No decision has been made as yet on when Archer is due to return to playing” ECB said in a statement.

Archer missed the last two Tests vs India and played a few games T20I series with pain before he underwent his surgery. He took 18 wickets in his debut season with his IPL franchise in 2018. He took 11 in 2019 and 20 in 2020. England’s frontline pacer since his debut, Archer has 30 wickets in 17 ODIs and 14 in 11 T20Is. In 13 Tests, the 25-year-old has dismissed 42 batsmen.

Archer’s absence was badly felt by the Royals in their campaign openers. Their inexperienced bowling line-up gave away 221 runs bowling first. Almost all of their bowlers barring Chetan Sakariya leaked runs in excess of 10 er over.
