The Mumbai Indians fans have another reason to rejoice: MI Cape Town has signed Jofra Archer as a wildcard player for the inaugural edition of the SA20 league.
Archer, who has been sidelined due to injuries since 2021, is currently in the UAE with the England Lions, where he is seen bowling. Jofra is showing encouraging signs as he hit Zak Crawley with a sharp bouncer in the three-day warm-up game.
He played a crucial part for England in lifting the ODI World Cup in 2019, and they will be looking to defend their title in India next year. He was initially out due to an elbow injury followed by a stress fracture on the back.
Jofra Archer was bought by the Mumbai Indians last year for eight crores in the auction and will be looking to make a comeback in the IPL in the upcoming edition. The franchise retained him ahead of the auction, and on Wednesday evening, he was announced as a wildcard signing for MI Cape Town. He last played for the Rajasthan Royals in 2020.

Jofra Archer will play alongside Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Rashid Khan, and Kagiso Rabada
Jofra Archer will join the likes of Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Rashid Khan, and Kagiso Rabada who are already a part of the squad. His edition will just further strengthen the team bowling with Kagiso Rabada.
The inaugural edition of the SA20 will begin on January 10th and will continue till February 11th with a break in between to compensate for the ODI series between England and South Africa. Archer can also be expected to return to the international level in this series.
The wildcard system was announced by Graeme Smith, SA20 Commissioner which allows teams to add another world-class player to their squads. Sunrisers Eastern Cape is the only other franchise to announce their wildcard signing. They signed uncapped South Africa batter, Jordan Hermann. Wildcard players will have a minimum signing of 175,000 Rand.
