The former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson scored his fifth double-century in Test matches. He achieved this milestone on the fourth day of the first match played at National Stadium, Karachi on 29 December 2022.

New Zealand openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway provided an excellent display of batting putting on 183 runs laying a strong foundation for a massive total. Williamson came to the crease and looked a little bit edgy at the start. He was given a reprieve as Sarfaraz Ahmed put down a stumping chance.

Williamson looked solid against Pakistan’s bowling line-up. He completed his half-century off 100 balls. Latham, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, and Tom Blundell put up valuable partnerships along with Williamson. He completed his 25th Test century off 206 balls and helped New Zealand to take a lead. New Zealand ended the third day at 440 for 6 with Williamson not out on 105.

The fourth day saw Williamson continue his merry way despite few chances given to Pakistan fielders. It was another special knock by Williamson to reach 150 off 328 balls. Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, and Neil Wagner went in quick succession. Williamson took most of the strike giving one delivery to Ajaz Patel.

Kane Williamson’s first double century in Test matches came against Sri Lanka. He scored an unbeaten 242 at Basin Reserve, Wellington on January 3, 2015. He followed with his second double ton against Bangladesh where he scored 200 not out at Seddon Park, Hamilton on February 28, 2019.

He posted his highest Test score of 251 against West Indies played at Seddon Park, Hamilton on December 3, 2020. His fourth double century was 238 against Pakistan at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on January 3, 2021.

The unbeaten double century in the first innings against Pakistan at National Stadium, Karachi was his first away from home. After stepping down from Test captaincy, Williamson looked his usual self and would be looking to score more in upcoming matches.
