Former Team India skipper Kapil Dev was one of the heartthrobs among the fans in the ’90s. The well-built tall and lanky all-rounder was a household name in India mostly among the women. Recently, Kapil tracked back to his younger days and revealed how he propose his wife Romi Bhatia in a romantic way.
The World Cup-winning captain took India to greater heights both as a leader and a player. He led the country to its maiden World Cup title in 1983 by beating a formidable West Indies side at the Lord’s cricket ground. His contribution to the sport is unparalleled.
Kapil Dev reveals how he proposed his wife
During a chat with Bollywood actress, Neha Dhupia on her chatshow Kapil Dev revealed how he proposed to Romi Bhatia. On the show #NoFilterNeha Season 5, Dev said he and Romi were travelling in a car while they crossed an advertisement hoarding which featured the all-rounder.
In the advertisement, Kapil had butter on two of his teeth which were visibly outside, and then he asked Romi to click a picture of that hoarding. When she questioned the reason for it, Kapil Dev answered that they would show the photo to their children. Romi realised quickly that in an indirect and funny way, Kapil was proposing to her.
The Haryana Hurricane also revealed that Romi’s father agreed on their marriage quite easily. However, it was her grandfather who grilled the cricketer with a series of questions. Kapil and Romi got married in 1980. They gave birth to a daughter, Amiya Dev in 1996.
Meanwhile, Bollywood director Kabir Khan is making a life on the legendary Kapil Dev titled ’83’. Ranveer Singh is starring as the Indian captain, and his wife Deepika Padukone will play the role of Kapil’s wife, Romi.
