Ravi Shastri started his stint as the Indian coach today when India take on Sri Lanka in the first test in a three match test series followed by 5 ODI’s and a single T-20. It will be a tough challenge for the Indian team to continue their winning streak in five-day format of the game. It will be a bigger challenge for Shastri to showcase his coaching skills after Kumble’s terrific winning record at home.
The former India coach, Anil Kumble stepped down from the head coach post citing the situation untenable for him to continue after an alleged rift with the Indian skipper Kohli. The BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of former legend Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman announced the name of the former all-rounder for the prestigious post. Shastri, who has been the director of the team for 18 months is quite familiar with all the players and has a good rapport with Virat Kohli.
Ahead of the first test against Sri Lanka at Galle, Shastri posted two pictures of him sitting with Virat Kohli in the dressing room and one from the practice match on twitter captioning, “Back to business with a great bunch #TeamIndia #SLvIND.”

Kevin Pieterson, the former England captain who has played a lot IPL games unknown of the fact that Shastri had never been the head coach took to Twitter saying, “Head coach again buddy?” Shastri traveled with the team before the former leg spinner took over not in the capacity of head coach but as a team director.
However, Shastri didn’t reply to KP’s tweet but the Twitterati brutally trolled the former England batsman for not knowing the facts properly. They also took a jab at Shastri for taking up the head coaches role in a debatable way and Kohli playing a vital part in it.
