South Africa defeated India by sevem wickets in the first T20I match at Arun Jaitley Stadium in the ongoing T20I series. South Africa successfully chased down the target of 212 runs set by the Indian team. With this win, South Africa took a lead of 1-0 in this T20I series. David Miller was the star for Proteas.
While chasing the target of 212 runs, South Africa didn’t get a good start. They lost the early wicket of Captain Temba Bavuma. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took this crucial wicket. However, Dwaine Pretorius played a counter-attacking knock in the Powerplay. He scored 29 runs in 13 balls which provided momentum to Proteas innings.
South Africa managed to score 60 plus runs in the powerplay. However, they lost the wicket of Quinton De Kock in the 9th over. South Africa was in deep trouble with the required run rate almost touching 12. David Miller joined Rassie Van Der Dussen at the crease. Both of them started slowly in their innings to run a ball in the first 12 balls.
However, David Miller soon changed gears and took on Indian bowlers. David Miller played an amazing knock of 64 runs in 31 balls. He hit 5 sixes in his innings. Rassie Van Der Dussen too finished on high at a score of 75 runs in 46 balls. He hit 7 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. It was a poor day for Indian bowlers.

What a run chase by South Africa.
They were 92 for 3 from 11 overs while chasing 212 and finished the game with 5 balls left – Thanks to Miller and RVD.

What a show by David Miller 64* (31) and Rassie Van Der Dussen 75* (46). South Africa needed 87 in the last 7 overs, they did it with 5 balls to spare.
They've broken India's 12 match winning streak in T20is. pic.twitter.com/VJhcCHD9aw

This is David Miller 2.0. He is so good, he plays so effortlessly at the moment. This is high class T20 batting from Miller.

Miller's dad was correct when he said, his son made some technical changes in his batting, be it against spin or pace and it's purely visible. He's making his own music with the bat. So good to watch. #INDvSA pic.twitter.com/MCBEc5QLH1

The David Miller turn around is scary for the opponents. It's so easy for him, there isn't something which can trouble him.

Many will always question @Rassie72 credibility. He is such a good player and takes accountability. He never over do things and has very strategical mind when he is at the crease. On top of it extremely consistent as well.

Phew! Bowling in the slog in t20 cricket in good batting conditions is one tough challenge.
One poor over and the bowler perhaps would suddenly feel like digging a hole in the middle of the ground and disappearing.
The pressure…

What a chase! Looked to be going one way and then…
Miller. Awesome! Rassie did it again. Took some steeliness to hang in there.#INDvsSA #SSCricket— Mpumelelo Mbangwa (@mmbangwa) June 9, 2022
Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya guide India to 211 runs
After being invited to bat first, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a great start to the Indian team in the powerplay. Ishan played an amazing knock of 76 runs. Later Captain Rishabh Pant played a cameo of 29 runs in 16 balls to carry forward the momentum. In the end, Hardik Pandya played an impactful knock of 31 runs in 12 balls to take India to a total of 211 runs.
However, it was not enough to seal a victory as the Proteas produced a superlative effort with the bat.
will hope to bounce back in the five-match T20I series when they lock horns with South Africa in the second game on Sunday at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
