The Kolkata Knight Riders have announced the retentions for the 2021 IPL season as they look to build a core team around the likes of Eoin Morgan and Shubman Gill in the side. KKR as a franchise have been hit by plenty of troubles in the 2020 season, starting from skipper Dinesh Karthik quitting captaincy midway through the season which led to Eoin Morgan taking over.
Though it was predicted that Kolkata Knight Riders would release a handful of players, this time they have managed to retain close to 90% of their existing squad. Dinesh Karthik too was retained despite the rumours that surfaced around with the former skipper being released from the roster.
Kolkata Knight Riders Retentions for IPL 2021
The Kolkata Knight Riders released quite a few names from their 2020 roster after a pretty poor season in the Emirates. Just 5 players namely M Siddharth, Nikhil Naik, Siddhesh Lad, Chris Green, Tom Banton being released.
Whereas in the retentions, it’s a long walk as they’ve retained majority of their squad. Dinesh Karthik and Kuldeep Yadav, two names which were in the talks have also been retained by the Knight Riders. Skipper Eoin Morgan, Pat Cummins, Andre Russell, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Seifert and Ali Khan are the overseas players retained while they released Chris Green and Tom Banton.
On the other hand, they have also managed to retain their core of young players who have been a part of the KKR unit since quite a while, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi, Sandeep Warrier and Prasidh Krishna would help in the formation of their pace attack. Ali Khan and Tim Seifert have also been retained after they were called up as replacements, midway through the IPL season.
