Kings XI Punjab beat Sunrisers Hyderabad to win a close game by 12 runs in Dubai on Saturday. They have now won four games on the trot to come back in the reckoning for the IPL 2020 playoffs. Meanwhile, the franchise dedicated this win to Mandeep Singh’s father who passed away on Friday night (October 23 October). KXIP after this win have moved up to the fifth position in the points table with 10 points from 11 games.

Mandeep’s father was suffering from acute illness after his health condition deteriorated last week. After battling against death Mandeep’s father finally passed away on Friday night. He was undergoing treatment at the Foris Hospital in Chandigarh. The final rituals were performed by his elder son Harvinder Singh. Despite his huge personal loss, Mandeep Singh took the field against SRH on Saturday. He scored 17 off 14 balls, opening the batting for Punjab. He replaced Mayank Agarwal at the top, who was out with an injury.

Kings XI Punjab’s official Twitter handle sent out a post after their win dedicating the win to his late father Sardar Hardev Singh.

Nicholas Pooran (32), KL (27) and Chris Gayle (20) made valuable contributions as KXIP scored 126 after their 20 overs. However, the match was won by the Punjab bowlers who bowled brilliantly in the second half of the chase.

From 56 to no loss in the seventh over, Punjab bowlers bowled the opposition out for 114 in the final over of the match. SRH needed 26 runs of 24 balls when Chris Jordan and co go together to take seven wickets for just 14 runs in a dramatic batting collapse from Hyderabad.

“I am just speechless right now to be honest. Very happy with the show from the boys. They went hard in the first six. But I knew we could pull things back if we don’t leak many runs in the powerplay as we have two leggies. We sat down and thought about the things that the bowlers would need in conditions like these and it’s good to see the work paying off” said Punjab skipper KL Rahul after they bagged another close win.

KXIP play KKR in their next game in Sharjah. KKR are placed fourth in the points table with 12 points, while KXIP just below them with 10.
