Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are two of the most successful franchises in IPL history. They have combined won a total of nine titles which speaks well about their accomplishments in the tournament since its inauguration in 2008.

Former CSK and MI player and legendary Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh has opened up on the rivalry between the two franchises. The former cricketer is one of the few players, who have represented both Mumbai and Chennai.

Harbhajan represented Mumbai Indians for seven years, winning five trophies including three IPL titles and two Champions League trophies. He then joined Chennai Super Kings where he won the IPL title and represented them for three seasons.

“This match was like India vs Pakistan in terms of rivalry. This was a big match for players and also in terms of fan following,” Harbhajan Singh said to Sportskeeda.

All the iconic clashes Mumbai and Chennai have had in IPL over all the years, it is fair for fans to call this match as the “El Classico” of the Indian Premier League. Fans of both the teams support their team from across the world and hope that their side wins.

This season, Mumbai and Chennai both have struggled for form. Mumbai are winless since the start of the season having played six matches whilst, Chennai have one win out of their six games. Both the teams occupy the bottom two spots on the table.

“How relevant it (the rivalry) is this season, I am not sure, because there have been lot of changes in the teams. The franchises that were in the top two are now in bottom two,” Harbhajan added.

Chennai and Mumbai lock horns for two crucial points

Both the teams are struggling in their bowling as their star bowlers that is Jofra Archer for Mumbai and Deepak Chahar for Chennai are ruled out for the season. If any team knows how to come back from bad starts, it is Mumbai and Chennai and they would hope to add these two crucial points to their tally when these two sides lock horns today at the DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.

Both the teams know the importance of this match but only time will tell who will come out on top in this mega clash in the Indian Premier League.
