Shardul Thakur, a Mumbai cricketer is set to join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Thakur went unsold during the mega auctions for IPL 2025. But now, he has been seen training with the LSG side ahead of the IPL. According to a TOI report, Thakur is likely to replace Mohsin Khan who is injured. Thakur can not only bowl fast, but he can also add value to the team’s total with the bat. Shardul Thakur has played several crucial innings for the Indian cricket team with the bat. He has the experience of playing the big matches and can be a useful player for LSG.
Shardul Thakur IPL Stats
Thakur had debuted in IPL in 2015 and since then, he has played a total of 95 matches. In the previous (2024) IPL season, Thakur played nine games and could only scalp five wickets. His bowling economy was also quite poor at 9.76. Even in the IPL 2023, Thakur could only take seven wickets in 11 matches.
Due to poor performance with the ball in two straight seasons, no team bagged Thakur. But now he is likely back in the mix with the LSG side.
Rishabh Pant is Leading LSG
For IPL 2025, LSG has a new captain – Rishabh Pant. KL Rahul decided not to stay with the team and was sold to the Delhi Capitals. KL Rahul was the previous and the first captain of LSG when the team debuted in IPL in 2022. Rishabh Pant has a decent amount of experience as a captain in IPL as he was already leading the Delhi Capitals in the previous season.
Pant led LSG is expected to play aggressive cricket on the field. LSG hasn’t proven to be a very effective side previously, even though it has qualified for the playoffs in two consecutive seasons of IPL (2022 and 2023). This year’s IPL is certainly going to be interesting.
