Mahela Jayawardene Reveals The Success Mantra Of Captain Rohit Sharma

The head coach of the Mumbai Indians Mahela Jayawardene has recently showered praise Rohit Sharma’s captaincy skills. He further added that his prowess of effectively using the information given by the analysts is what makes him stand out as a captain.

Meanwhile, Rohit took over the captaincy duties from Ricky Pointing during the 2013 IPL season after the Australian legend failed to make an impact. Since taking over the role, Mumbai Indians haven’t looked back as they went on to win four IPL titles. They are the most successful IPL franchise in history with Chennai Super Kings sitting second with three titles.

While talking to Sony Ten’s Pit Shop, Mahela Jayawardene said the ability of Rohit Sharma to concentrate on minute details makes him great. When asked about the planning that goes into the team meetings, he revealed that they don’t have long meetings.

“He is an instinctive leader for sure. But at the same time, Rohit gathers a lot of information as well, I think that’s his strength.”

“We don’t have long meetings. Yes, we have certain meetings because there has to be a plan to which you can fall back to when things are not going well, But Rohit does get a lot of information and he likes to know things. He uses that out there in the middle. That’s how he reacts and all that,” Jayawardene said.

He disclosed, that Rohit is always looking for little snippets from video analysts. Mahela, who joined Mumbai Indians in 2017 also said, Rohit Sharma works extra hours with the analyst to take a note of every detail. Jayawardene also called Rohit a natural captain.

“Even though everyone thinks he is instinctively making those calls, that information is there. It can be odd times… sometimes you walk into a team room and you see Rohit with the analyst just looking at some things and all. he gets those little snippets from the guys,” Jayawardene added.
