The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on March 22nd at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, with a high-voltage clash between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the star-studded Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). As teams gear up for the mega tournament, franchises are putting in hard work during rigorous training sessions to prepare their players for the battle ahead. The excitement is already building as each franchise pushes its players through intense practice sessions. With only days left before the grand opening, all eyes are on fitness and form.

Training Mishaps: An Unfortunate Reality

While training is essential for enhancing player performance, it can occasionally lead to minor or even serious injuries. Recently, Delhi Capitals’ young all-rounder Manvanth Kumar narrowly avoided an injury during a practice session. As he approached the bowling crease, another ball unexpectedly crossed close to his face, momentarily distracting him. Fortunately, he escaped unharmed, but the incident served as a stark reminder of the risks players encounter during training.

Manvanth Kumar: The Rising Star in Delhi Capitals

At just 20 years old, Manvanth Kumar has already made headlines. This promising left-handed batter and right-arm fast-medium bowler was picked up by Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 30 lakhs during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Manvanth hails from a middle-class family in Mysuru’s Srinagar area. His father, Lakshmi Kumar, was a retired BMTC bus driver, while his mother, Sridevi Kumar, managed the household. His elder brother, Hemanth Kumar, played a crucial role in guiding his cricketing career.

Climbing the Ranks in Domestic Cricket

Manvanth Kumar has had an impressive cricketing journey, beginning with his representation of the Under-14 and Under-16 Mysuru zone teams, followed by standout performances in Under-19 tournaments. Currently showcasing his talent in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, his consistent achievements in domestic cricket have drawn the attention of IPL scouts, ultimately earning him a spot in the accelerator round of the IPL auction.

Delhi Capitals are investing in youth, and Kumar’s ability to perform under pressure makes him a valuable asset. With a strong presence in both batting and bowling, his all-round capabilities bring balance to the squad.

DC’s New Leadership

In a major leadership shake-up, Delhi Capitals have named Faf du Plessis as vice-captain, while Axar Patel takes over as captain. Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, DC made a bold decision to release their former captain, Rishabh Pant. Having been with DC for seven seasons, Axar Patel is set to lead the franchise with du Plessis as his deputy. Delhi Capitals will start their IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Visakhapatnam on March 24th (Monday).
